Rossville Area Parks and Recreation

The future looks bright for the Rossville Town Park. The transformation has been a community effort. Funding has come from private individuals, the Rossville Lion’s Club, the Rossville Kiwanis, the Homer Cameron Post 342, and the Clinton County Community Foundation. The seven acre park has developed into a family friendly recreational area for all ages to enjoy.

Several of the amenities include a lighted walking trail, basketball court, two playground areas, an enclosed shelter house, an open-air shelter pavilion, baseball fields, soccer/football fields, and landscaping.

The walking trail is paved and lighted. The distance around the trail is approximately .6 of a mile. Several individuals, businesses, and service organizations have sponsored lights along the trail. Plans are being made to improve and upgrade the lighting system. Several park benches have also been placed along the trail.

There are two playground areas for children to enjoy. One area is for very small children and toddlers and the other is for older children.

The park has become a perennial haven. The Rossville Kiwanis Club planted several perennial flower beds on the east side of the park along the trail. They help to maintain them throughout the spring and summer months. There have also been several trees and bushes planted throughout the park.

The Rossville Baseball Association, Rossville Soccer League, and Rossville Little Gridiron presently use the fields. The Baseball Association has three playing fields. The Rossville Fall Soccer League has completed several successful seasons at the park. The League is currently developing a junior varsity/varsity soccer team for the Rossville School Corporation.

The enclosed shelter house is available to rent April through October. The cost is $35.00 plus sales tax per day for persons living within the Rossville School District and $50.00 plus sales tax per day for persons outside the Rossville School District. Reservations can be made by contacting the Town Hall at 379-2645. There is also an open-air pavilion, which the Rossville Lion’s Club donated to the park. This pavilion is free.

A Park Donation Fund has been set up for anyone wishing to make a donation to this community effort.
